Sometimes you have to take a moment for yourself…even if there is work to do and emails to reply to…because it is always better to have that time to refuel your soul than to keep running on fumes.
I took my moment today at National Harbor. Instead of sitting in a hot car, ferociously pecking out emails on my phone, I walked two blocks to the waterfront, bought an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie still warm from the oven, and worked from a tiny beach with my toes in the sand. Yes, I still had to work and yes, I still had to reply to a dozen emails, but instead of growing more exhausted and irritated I was blissfully relaxed. The sky was picture perfect, there were children laughing and eating ice cream, and if I closed my eyes for a moment it smelled and felt like I was on a beach vacation.
Now I’m back to work…cheeks a little pinker from the sun, hair a little windblown, melted chocolate on the corner of my lip…but I’m serenely happy because of that moment for me.
